Who are Women United In Prayer?

We are a group of Christian women with diverse backgrounds and living in various locations in the US who have learned that prayer and fasting changes everything. Coming together twice a week for prayer, fasting, ministering, and encourgement is the sole purpose of this group. We acknowledge that God is the source of our strength and we are not ashamed to proclaim that Jesus is Lord!

We know that through prayer, we are able to experience blessings, healing, and spiritual renewel. Our goal is to show others that women of God can overcome the chains that keep us bound and divided as women by supporting each other without judgment.

While we use the internet to keep in touch, WUIP is not an internet based group. We pray using a conferencing system which allows us to hear the joy, peace, and sometimes hardship in our sisters' voices. Finally, we believe God hears our prayers therefore, once prayers are uttered, there is no need to repeat these petitions to anyone inside or outside WUIP.

Founders of Women United In Prayer

WUIP's Inspirational Leader

Collette Chambers is the backbone and heart of Women United In Prayer. Guided by her faith in God and the Holy Spirit, she was led to create a prayer group where women can come together for prayer, fasting, and fellowship without worries of judgment. As her name suggests, she is a woman of great faith as she encourages the women “to pray and do not doubt.” Collette takes her spiritual walk very seriously. In December 2003, she completed and graduated from the God’s Leading Lady program at the Potter’s House where the world-renowned pastor is Bishop T.D. Jakes. Because God has set her apart to minister to women all over the world, He allowed her to spend some time in Japan where she was able to preach the Gospel of Jesus to women who may not have otherwise heard it.

She is the proud mother of a son, Decosta Daniel. She is an entrepreneur who owns a real estate investment company, as well as, manages her family’s commercial real estate in her native Jamaica. She also works as a Senior, Certified, Project Manager at International Business Machines (IBM). As a longtime vegetarian, she believes physical fitness and healthy eating are very important. She is also a third degree black belt in art of Tae Kwon Do. Collette shares her knowledge of physical fitness and healthy eating with the Women United In Prayer group, as well as, countless others she comes in contact with.

WUIP's Source of Encouragement

Shandeth Barnes Montgomery is “too blessed to be stressed” which gives her plenty of time and energy to devote to be a woman living to fulfill God’s purpose for her life. She has a passion for helping people and WUIP is part of her mission to transform the way women and young ladies approach their walk with the Lord. Excited about her spiritual walk, she is a member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden. At her church, she participates in the “Feed the Hungry”, and Singles Ministries. With a desire “to minister the Gospel through the Art of Dance”, Shandeth is the president of the church’s Dance Ministry where she uses her love of dancing to praise the Lord. She has also started a solo dance ministry in which she uses her gift to minister for other churches and various events.

The divorced mother of 2 wonderful children, met her soulmate and remarried last year 2008. During her divorced period, she learned a lot and wants to share her experiences in marriage and single parenting to help individuals in similar situations. Her very nature is one that draws people to her for advice and she tries to be available to share a positive and uplifting word. Staying in great physical shape is something Shandeth does not take for granted. A Certified Fitness Instructor, she began teaching aerobics, dance, and some personal training about six years ago. She is also an advocate and promoter of a healthier lifestyle through proper eating habits.
